Considering the way Israel has treated the LORD in the past, moments like these are well worth observing the LORD's continued graciousness in dealing with them.
Yet we will see if you read the next chapter, the LORD's wrath still burns brightly.
Story of Israel
The LORD's wrath will continue to burn against this people, until he wipes this generation out in the wilderness. Even then the LORD still has a love hate relationship with their descendants. So he keeps referring to a future sacrifice and consumation where he will dwell within his people. But this won't happen until Jesus comes.
Story of Jesus
How does this Leviticus text point to Jesus you might ask. Well in Jesus we see God's grace shine, his acceptance of Jesus' sacrifice and his wrath satisfied. Jesus was the one who took on himself the cup of God's wrath. Jesus was the one who ushered in the new era of grace.

Considering the way Israel has treated the LORD in the past, moments like these are well worth observing the LORD's continued graciousness in dealing with them.
Aaron blessed the LORD and fire comes down and consumes the sacrifice. While it is left unstated I still remember Israel bowing down and worshipping a golden calf. Yet even here the Lord puts himself on show, revealing his glory and deals with this stubborn hearted people. What an amazing display of humility and mercy on his part.[22] Then Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and blessed them, and he came down from offering the sin offering and the burnt offering and the peace offerings. [23] And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting, and when they came out they blessed the people, and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the people. [24] And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar, and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces. (Lev 9:22-24)
